Tokyo School Life is an unambitious visual novel.
In my opinion, no single route stands out in particular, but none of them were bad either. It's a simple concept, and it works pretty well for this visual novel. The individual character routes all follow the same formula the protagonist starts falling for the girl, the girl's backstory and/or struggles are explored, and it typically ends as the two confirm their feelings for each other. It's a simple tale of romance with some drama sprinkled in. The story of Tokyo School Life is nothing grandiose. didn't sit very well with me, especially considering the 'educational' vibe of this VN.įortunately this is the last time the story has any such major problems, and the opening chapter is only around 10 minutes long anyways, so with that out of the way let's get to the actual story of this game. The way the protagonist comes to Japan expecting courtesy only to "realize" that the people here have tropey personalities straight from an anime and are perfectly willing to let an exchange student sleep in the cold for finding himself in the most cliché situation imaginable for no fault of his own. I'll start off by admitting that as far as I'm concerned the story opens with one of the worst opening chapters I've seen in a while. There is some okay-grade humour, especially involving otaku culture.Besides the main girls there are some minor characters, namely Aoi's grandfather, but none of them are particularly worthy of mention, as the story is really all about the three girls. There is no fullscreen function unless you enter ALT+Enter. Sadly, there is no breast bounciness gauge. The E-mote technology, seen before in Nekopara, is actually more fluid and realistic now. The story is funny, especially the iPad chat sessions between the girls discussing your choices. Depending on your choices (that are pretty obvious by the way, because the character’s eyes blink like little stars if your answer pleases them…) and Depending on dialogue your final choice is locked. On the way, you meet Karin, Aoi and Sakura (In that order), three girls with different personalities, who surprise, surprise! They are the ONLY people who live in your dorm. You get on a plane, hoping to find your sweet kawaii waifu. You find out that the best student in class gets to go to a Japanese High School for 2 months, so you study your ass off and win. Select the best answers to befriend one of them and perhaps with the right words, your love for you dream girl will be reciprocated. In addition to English, Tokyo School Life lets you display the text in kana, romaji and even in kanji! It is the perfect opportunity to learn vocabulary and study Japanese sentence constructions in a fun and engaging way! MEDAL OF HONOR ABOVE AND BEYOND Your choices will affect the outcomeĪs you progress through the story, you will get to know more about Karin, Aoi and Sakura. Never before has a visual novel been this immersive! Boost your Japanese skills whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner. The girls are rendered in a smooth animation style and change their expression as you interact with them. Characters are brought to life thanks to a splendid art style and a talented Japanese voice cast. Since she was a child, Sakura has been suffering from an illness, she loves to spend her time in the school library where she can lose herself in the pages of her books, far away from her real-world affliction.įully animated and voiced characters. MINATSUGI Sakura: Sakura is both kind and friendly.
